I recently took a trip here with my best friend and honestly? I don’t think either of us was fully prepared for how much we were going to fall in love with this place. Tucked up in the Sacramento Mountains, Ruidoso is this dreamy little mountain town that somehow manages to be charming, adventurous, and completely relaxing all at the same time, and if that doesn’t sound like the perfect girls’ trip formula, I don’t know what does!

Midtown Ruidoso is absolutely adorable, we’re talking the cutest boutiques, live music that just hits different when the mountain air is blowing through your hair, and nature so beautiful it honestly feels unfair. We hiked, we shopped, we relaxed, we laughed until we cried, it was one of those trips that just fills you all the way up.

Getting to Ruidoso, New Mexico — Everything You Need to Know

When it comes to getting to Ruidoso, there are really two main ways to fly in depending on where you’re coming from!

Option 1: Fly into Albuquerque (ABQ) Your first option is to fly into Albuquerque International Sunport, which is about a 3-hour drive from Ruidoso. This is a great option if you can snag a good deal on flights into ABQ.

Option 2: Fly into El Paso (ELP) This is the option we went with and honestly, I’d recommend it! El Paso International Airport is only about a 2.5 hours away from Ruidoso, which means less time in the car and more time in that mountain air! We rented a car right at the El Paso airport, which was super easy and convenient, and then just hit the road. The drive up to Ruidoso is so pretty and honestly it already feels like the trip has started the second you get going, the landscape is just stunning!

Where to Stay in Ruidoso, New Mexico

When it comes to where to stay in Ruidoso, I have to tell you about the absolute gem we found, the Sitzmark Chalet Inn and honestly it completely made our trip! This place has been open since 1959 and you can feel that cozy, timeless charm the second you arrive. Our room had an actual chimney which gave us all the cabin feels without actually having to rent one, and the rooms were so incredibly comfortable and cozy, the perfect little mountain retreat to come back to after a full day of adventures. They also have a sauna which we used every single night and oh my gosh, after a fun day of exploring Ruidoso it felt like absolute heaven!

To make it even better, every morning you can enjoy free muffins and coffee or tea to start your day right, plus they have the most gorgeous patio to sit and soak in that fresh mountain air. They even have a lending library where you can borrow a book and just slow way down. And I have to give the biggest shoutout to Lisa at the front desk who checked us in, she was so warm, welcoming, and gave us the best local recommendations that truly took our trip to the next level. Day 1 in Ruidoso, New Mexico — Shopping, Live Music & More

11 a.m. You just pulled into Ruidoso and the girls’ trip is officially on and there is no better way to kick things off than heading straight to The Village Buttery for lunch! Trust me, after a morning of traveling this is exactly the welcome you deserve. I had the most delicious chicken salad sandwich and honestly it hit the spot perfectly, but let’s talk about the real stars of the show, the pies! You absolutely cannot leave without trying their famous Buttermilk Pie, it is legendary for a reason and one bite will have you completely obsessed. We also had the Pecan Pie and I am not exaggerating when I say it was to die for. They also have the sweetest little patio which is perfect for sitting outside and soaking up that fresh mountain air.

12 p.m. After lunch it’s time to hit the streets and dive headfirst into the magic that is Midtown Ruidoso! Midtown is absolutely packed with the cutest shops, stunning murals, and that irresistible small town charm that just makes you want to wander for hours, which is exactly what we did! Some of our absolute favorite stops were Cool Junk, Ruidoso Trading Post, Feather & Stone Emporium, Ruidoso Natural Remedies, and Old Barrel Tea Company, every single shop had its own unique personality and we had the best time poking around each one. We also loved hunting down the beautiful murals scattered throughout Midtown, they are so stunning and make for the most incredible photos. One of the original murals that was created in Ruidoso is right by Ruidoso Trading Post and it is absolutely gorgeous, definitely a must stop for your camera roll!

3 p.m. After all that shopping head over to Win, Place & Show Bar for some amazing live music out on their patio! This place has such a great vibe and is the perfect mid-afternoon stop to sit back, relax, and soak it all in with your girls. And if ya’ll are feeling a little adventurous, they also have axe throwing. Just make sure you wear closed toe shoes because they are required, so keep that in mind when planning your outfit for the day!

4 p.m. It’s time to finally check into your stay, get settled in, and take a little breather before the evening fun begins! This is the perfect time to freshen up and change into a cozy outfit.

5 p.m. For dinner call ahead to Cafe Rio Pizza and order a pizza to go! And trust me on this one, call ahead! This place is popular for a reason and it gets busy, so you definitely want to have your order in before you show up! I highly recommend trying The Pizza Rio Classic, so good and absolutely hits the spot after a big day of adventuring! Oh and whatever you do, do not skip the Peach Iced Tea, it is so refreshing and the perfect pairing with your pizza!

6 p.m Grab your pizza from Cafe Rio and head straight over to Wingfield Park for a FREE outdoor concert. Every Friday night from 6:00–8:00 PM, Wingfield Park hosts amazing live performances as part of the Ruidoso Cool Summer Nights Music Series running from May 29 through August 28, and the best part is it happens rain or shine so nothing is going to get in the way of your good time!

We had the absolute best time watching the incredibly talented Dave Hamilton perform and oh my gosh, he was Amazing. We sat there eating our Cafe Rio pizza, soaking up the most beautiful Ruidoso evening, listening to live music, and honestly just felt like life could not get any better in that moment!

8 p.m. After the most incredible first day it’s time to head back to your stay and get ready for another amazing day. If you’re staying at the Sitzmark Chalet Inn this is the perfect time to hop into that sauna, trust me, after all that exploring, shopping, and concerting your body will thank you! We ended our first night the most perfect way possible, after our showers we curled up and watched Pretty Woman with the chimney crackling in the background and honestly it was just chef’s kiss!

Day 2 in Ruidoso, New Mexico — Hiking, Wine & Everything in Between

9 a.m. Head over to Casitas Café for breakfast and just prepare to be completely charmed, this place is so cute and has the perfect combination of amazing food and incredible coffee to fuel you up for another full day of adventures! We tried the Nutella Toast and the Avocado Toast for food and both were absolutely delicious! And for the drinks? I had the Cortadillo Matcha Latte while my bestie got the Cold Rush Latte.

10 a.m. After breakfast it’s time to get outside and soak up all that gorgeous Ruidoso nature because Grindstone Lake is calling your name! This place is absolutely stunning and is the perfect outdoor adventure for your girls’ trip whether you are a big outdoorsy girl or just love a scenic walk with your bestie! The multi-use trail system was designed by the International Mountain Biking Association and consists of 5 trails totaling 18 miles that are open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, so there is truly something for everyone! Just a heads up there is a $10 per vehicle entrance fee so make sure you have cash or card handy! We laced up our sneakers and hiked for a bit and oh my gosh the views were absolutely breathtaking, we kept stopping just to take it all in and pinch ourselves that this was real life! And if hiking isn’t enough adventure for your crew, you can also rent kayaks and paddleboards on the lake or even tackle the water obstacle course if you are feeling extra bold and adventurous!

12 p.m. After all that fresh mountain air and hiking your girls are going to need a little reset and that is totally okay, actually it is highly encouraged! Head back to your hotel, hop in the shower, and if you feel like a little nap is calling your name then absolutely do not fight it!

2 p.m. It is time for one of the most iconic stops of the entire trip, Noisy Water Winery! Make sure you grab a table on the front patio because the views of the mountains and Midtown are absolutely gorgeous and the perfect backdrop for a long and leisurely girls’ lunch! We highly recommend trying the Green Chile Fettuccine Alfredo, it is so incredibly delicious and such a fun New Mexico twist that you absolutely have to try! After lunch head over to their brand new outdoor turf area for wine, live music, and the most laid-back sunny afternoon atmosphere that is just pure perfection with your girls! Noisy Water Winery is the kind of place where you sit down for one glass and somehow end up staying for three, and we have absolutely zero regrets about it!

3:30 p.m. If the girls are still feeling energized and want to keep the Midtown magic going then absolutely keep walking and exploring because there is still so much cuteness to discover right around the corner from Noisy Water Winery! Make sure to pop into Manoli Coffee & Boutique, and definitely check out Roots Ruidoso, voted one of the best stores in Ruidoso and honestly it lives up to the hype completely! If you have a sweet tooth Simple Sugars is the most adorable little frozen yogurt shop that you simply cannot walk past without stopping in, it is too cute and too delicious to skip! And if you are craving something extra refreshing after a warm afternoon of exploring, swing by Sabor for the most delicious gelato or sorbet that is honestly the perfect little treat to enjoy as you stroll through Midtown!

7 p.m. To cap off your last evening in Ruidoso there is no better way to do it than a delicious sit down dinner at The Ranchers Steak and Seafood Restaurant! Settle in, order an amazing steak, and just take a moment to soak in the fact that you and your girls just had the most incredible Ruidoso weekend. It is the perfect way to slow down, relax, and savor the last evening of what has been the most amazing girls’ getaway!

9 p.m. After dinner it’s time to head back to your stay, kick your feet up and just relax! Pop into that sauna one last time, get cozy, and take a moment to just soak in what an absolutely incredible trip this has been!

Day 3 in Ruidoso, New Mexico — Pancakes, Pistachios & White Sands

8 a.m. Head over to Log Cabin Restaurant for breakfast but listen to me when I say get there early because this place gets absolutely packed and for very good reason! The moment you walk in you are going to be completely charmed because this restaurant truly feels like you are eating inside an actual log cabin, the coziest and most fitting breakfast spot for your last morning in the mountains! You absolutely have to order the pancakes because they are honestly to die for! They also have the most adorable little patio if you want to soak up that fresh mountain morning air one last time before you head home.

9:30 a.m. Right after breakfast head over to Zocca Coffee & Tea, because this place is just too cute to skip and is the perfect way to get your morning drink fix. I had the most amazing Midnight in Paris Tea and it was so incredibly refreshing, honestly the perfect morning sip! Whether you are a coffee girl or a tea girl this little gem has something for everyone and is such a sweet little stop to add to your last morning in Ruidoso!

10 a.m. As much as we do not want to admit it, it is time to head back to your stay, grab your things and check out!

12 p.m. If you flew in and out of El Paso Airport, PistachioLand Farm Tours is the most perfect pit stop on your way back since it falls right along the route. You can explore all kinds of amazing pistachio flavors, like seriously the variety will blow your mind and you will want to try every single one! And of course you absolutely cannot leave without taking a picture with the giant pistachio because it is iconic and your Instagram will thank you! Oh and the pistachio ice cream? Oh my gosh it is so delicious and such a fun and unique treat that you simply cannot pass up.

1 p.m. And if you thought the stops were over, think again because we have one more absolutely breathtaking one for you! White Sands National Park is right on the way to El Paso Airport and trust me it is so worth pulling over even if you only have 15 minutes to spare. Endless stretches of the most stunning white sand dunes as far as the eye can see and it truly feels like you have stepped onto another planet!

3:30 p.m. Arrive to El Paso Airport and make your way back home!

Cuando se trata de llegar a Ruidoso, hay principalmente dos opciones para volar, dependiendo de dónde viajes.

Opción 1: Volar a Albuquerque (ABQ)

Día 1 en Ruidoso, Nuevo México — Compras, Música en Vivo y Mucho Más

11:00 a.m. Acabas de llegar a Ruidoso y oficialmente comienza el viaje de chicas. ¡Y no hay mejor manera de arrancarlo que dirigiéndote directamente a The Village Buttery para almorzar! Créeme, después de una mañana de viaje, esta es exactamente la bienvenida que te mereces. Yo pedí un delicioso sándwich de ensalada de pollo y fue justo lo que necesitaba, pero hablemos de las verdaderas estrellas del lugar: ¡los pays! Definitivamente no puedes irte sin probar su famoso Buttermilk Pie. Es legendario por una razón, y con un solo bocado entenderás por qué tanta gente habla de él. Cada tienda tenía su propia personalidad y nos divertimos muchísimo explorando cada una de ellas.

3 p.m. Después de todas esas compras, dirígete a Win, Place & Show Bar para disfrutar de excelente música en vivo en su patio al aire libre. Este lugar tiene un ambiente increíble y es la parada perfecta para sentarte, relajarte y disfrutar del momento con tus amigas. Y si se sienten un poco aventureras, también ofrecen lanzamiento de hachas. Solo asegúrense de usar zapatos cerrados, ya que son obligatorios, así que tenlo en cuenta al planear tu outfit del día.

4 p.m. Es hora de finalmente hacer el check-in en tu hospedaje, instalarte y tomarte un pequeño descanso antes de que comiencen las actividades de la noche. Este es el momento perfecto para refrescarte y cambiarte a un outfit cómodo para la tarde.

Recomiendo muchísimo probar la Pizza Rio Classic, es deliciosa y realmente es perfecta después de un día lleno de aventuras. Y hagas lo que hagas, no te saltes el té helado de durazno, es súper refrescante y combina perfectamente con la pizza.

6 p.m. Recoge tu pizza en Cafe Rio y dirígete directamente a Wingfield Park para un concierto gratuito al aire libre. Todos los viernes por la noche, de 6:00 a 8:00 p.m., el parque ofrece presentaciones en vivo increíbles como parte de la serie Cool Summer Nights Music Series en Ruidoso, que va del 29 de mayo al 28 de agosto. 8 p.m. Después de un primer día increíble, es hora de regresar a tu hospedaje y prepararte para otro gran día. Si te estás quedando en el Sitzmark Chalet Inn, este es el momento perfecto para disfrutar de la sauna. Créeme, después de caminar, comprar y estar en el concierto, tu cuerpo lo va a agradecer. Nosotras terminamos la primera noche de la mejor manera posible: después de bañarnos, nos acurrucamos a ver Pretty Woman con la chimenea encendida de fondo, y honestamente fue el final perfecto del día.

Día 2 en Ruidoso, Nuevo México — Senderismo, Vino y Todo lo Demás

9 a.m. Dirígete a Casitas Café para desayunar y prepárate para enamorarte del lugar. Este café es súper encantador y tiene la combinación perfecta entre comida deliciosa y café increíble para recargarte de energía para otro día completo de aventuras. Probamos la Nutella Toast y la Avocado Toast, y ambas estaban absolutamente deliciosas. En cuanto a bebidas, yo pedí el Cortadillo Matcha Latte mientras mi mejor amiga eligió el Cold Rush Latte.

10 a.m. Después del desayuno, es momento de salir y disfrutar de la hermosa naturaleza de Ruidoso porque Grindstone Lake te está esperando. El sistema de senderos de uso múltiple fue diseñado por la International Mountain Biking Association y cuenta con 5 rutas que suman un total de 18 millas, abiertas para senderismo, ciclismo de montaña y paseos a caballo, así que hay opciones para todos. Solo un recordatorio: hay una tarifa de entrada de $10 por vehículo, así que asegúrate de llevar efectivo o tarjeta.

Nosotras nos pusimos tenis y salimos a caminar un poco, y las vistas eran absolutamente impresionantes. No dejábamos de detenernos para admirarlo todo y preguntarnos si realmente era real. Y si el senderismo no es suficiente aventura para tu grupo, también puedes rentar kayaks y tablas de paddle en el lago o incluso intentar el circuito de obstáculos acuáticos si te sientes especialmente valiente y aventurera.

12 p.m. Después de todo ese aire fresco de montaña y la caminata, tus chicas van a necesitar un pequeño descanso, y eso está totalmente bien… de hecho, ¡es altamente recomendado! Regresa a tu hotel, date una ducha y, si sientes que una siesta te está llamando, no la ignores en absoluto.

Asegúrense de conseguir mesa en el patio delantero porque las vistas de las montañas y de Midtown son absolutamente hermosas y el escenario perfecto para un almuerzo largo y relajado entre amigas. Recomendamos muchísimo probar la Green Chile Fettuccine Alfredo, es increíblemente deliciosa y tiene ese toque único de Nuevo México que simplemente tienes que probar. Después del almuerzo, dirígete a su nueva área exterior con césped, perfecta para disfrutar vino, música en vivo y una tarde soleada súper relajada con un ambiente que se siente simplemente perfecto con tus amigas. Noisy Water Winery es el tipo de lugar donde te sientas a tomar una copa y sin darte cuenta terminas quedándote a tres… y honestamente, sin ningún arrepentimiento.

3:30 p.m. Si el grupo todavía tiene energía y quiere seguir explorando la magia de Midtown, definitivamente sigan caminando porque aún hay muchas cosas lindas por descubrir a solo unos pasos de Noisy Water Winery. Asegúrense de pasar por Manoli Coffee & Boutique y también visitar Roots Ruidoso, que fue votada como una de las mejores tiendas de Ruidoso y realmente cumple con todas las expectativas. Si tienes antojo de algo dulce, Simple Sugars es una adoradora tienda de yogurt helado que no puedes simplemente pasar de largo sin entrar, es demasiado linda y deliciosa como para ignorarla. Y si después de una tarde cálida de exploración quieres algo aún más refrescante, pasa por Sabor para probar el gelato o sorbete más delicioso, el snack perfecto para disfrutar mientras sigues caminando por Midtown.

7 p.m. Para cerrar tu última noche en Ruidoso, no hay mejor manera de hacerlo que con una deliciosa cena en The Ranchers Steak and Seafood Restaurant! Siéntate, pide un increíble corte de carne y tómate un momento para apreciar que tú y tus amigas acaban de vivir un fin de semana inolvidable en Ruidoso. Es la manera perfecta de bajar el ritmo, relajarse y disfrutar la última noche de lo que ha sido una escapada de chicas simplemente increíble.

9 p.m. Después de la cena, es momento de regresar a tu hospedaje, recargar energías y simplemente relajarte. Aprovecha para pasar una última vez por la sauna, ponerte cómoda y tomarte un momento para disfrutar y asimilar lo increíble que ha sido este viaje.

Día 3 en Ruidoso, Nuevo México — Pancakes, Pistachos y White Sands

8 a.m. Dirígete a Log Cabin Restaurant para desayunar, pero escúchame bien cuando te digo que llegues temprano porque este lugar se llena muchísimo… y con muy buena razón. Desde el momento en que entras, te vas a enamorar, ya que este restaurante realmente se siente como comer dentro de una cabaña de troncos. Es el lugar más acogedor y perfecto para tu último desayuno en las montañas. Tienes que pedir los pancakes porque son simplemente increíbles. También cuentan con un patio adorable si quieres disfrutar una última vez del aire fresco de la mañana en la montaña antes de regresar a casa.

9:30 a.m. Justo después del desayuno, pasa por Zocca Coffee & Tea, porque este lugar es demasiado lindo como para saltárselo y es la parada perfecta para tu bebida matutina. Yo pedí el té Midnight in Paris, que fue súper refrescante y perfecto para empezar el día. Ya seas de café o de té, este pequeño lugar tiene algo para todos y es una parada muy bonita para cerrar tu última mañana en Ruidoso.

10 a.m. Aunque no queremos aceptarlo, es hora de regresar al hospedaje, recoger tus cosas y hacer el check-out.

12 p.m. Si volaste entrando y saliendo del Aeropuerto de El Paso, PistachioLand Farm Tours es la parada perfecta en el camino de regreso, ya que queda justo en la ruta. Aquí puedes explorar todo tipo de sabores increíbles de pistacho; de verdad, la variedad te va a sorprender y vas a querer probarlos todos.

Y, por supuesto, no puedes irte sin tomarte una foto con el pistacho gigante, es icónico y tu Instagram te lo va a agradecer. Y el helado de pistacho… ¡wow! Es delicioso y un postre súper divertido y único que simplemente no te puedes perder.

1 p.m. Y si pensabas que las paradas habían terminado, piensa otra vez porque todavía queda una absolutamente impresionante. White Sands National Park está justo de camino al Aeropuerto de El Paso y, aunque solo tengas 15 minutos, vale muchísimo la pena detenerte.

Extensas dunas de arena blanca hasta donde alcanza la vista que realmente te hacen sentir como si hubieras llegado a otro planeta.

3:30 p.m. Llegada al Aeropuerto de El Paso y regreso a casa.
