Where to Stay

Solo Getaway

Stay in a charming country retreat with Edith. John and I loved staying at her peaceful farmhouse because she is an amazing host and it was relaxing. You have your own room and bathroom, but will share the living room and kitchen with Edith. This was our first time doing something like this and we were a bit nervous, but we ended loving the whole experience. Edith’s home felt like very welcoming and she was very friendly. She even baked us muffins and made coffee to enjoy in the morning. Up to 4 guests can stay at her house and pets are allowed. The view from her porch is magnificent, because you can see the beautiful countryside and lots of cows. This is a place John and I would definitely stay again! Romantic Getaway

John and I stayed at the cutest tiny house, and we loved it! It had everything we needed, including a full kitchen and a cozy outdoor patio where we could relax. Even though it was small, it was super comfortable and felt like home. The best part? It was only nine minutes from Downtown Bryan! We were close to all the restaurants and shops but still had a quiet little spot to come back to. If you’re ever in the area and want a unique place to stay, this tiny house is a great option! Friday

4 p.m. Check into your stay and drop off your luggage.

5 p.m. Enjoy a delicious dinner at Caffé Capri, a family-run trattoria known for its amazing pastas and appetizers. The food here is so good, and if you go, you have to try the meatballs—they’re a must! The place fills up fast, so it’s best to get there right when they open. Fun fact: this was George W. Bush’s go-to spot whenever he visited Bryan!

7 p.m. Enjoy drinks and live music with a magnificent view of Lake Bryan and the sunset at Cadillac Ranch Bar & Grill. This place offers a laid-back atmosphere, refreshing drinks, beautiful views, and live music. I highly recommend to go during sunset time, because the view is just breathtaking. You can enjoy live music on the weekends, but make sure to check out their Instagram to see the schedule.

9 p.m. Head back to you stay to sleep to get ready for a weekend full of adventures!

Saturday

8:30 a.m. Grab a coffee from Tavo Coffee Co., a super cute coffee shop set in a beautiful historic building. The space has so much character, with its old brick walls and charming details that make it feel like a little step back in time. Don’t forget to check out the back room—it’s filled with vibrant, colorful murals that add such a fun and artsy touch to the space!

9 a.m. Visit the The Farm Patch, an open-air market & garden center known for their fresh produce, plants, and seasonal fruits and veggies. It’s a local favorite and it has been in business since 1974. During October they have a lovely pumpkin patch with lots of activities and cute fall photo-ops. I really like this place because it has a small-town market feel.

10 a.m. Go shopping at the Historic Downtown Bryan, which is full of restored buildings. Start at Stage Left, which is a thrift boutique that supports survivors. 100% of the proceeds benefit survivors at Different Day. You will be able to find one of a kind clothes and lots of cute accessories. Walk to Corner of Time, this is a charming antique mall with a variety of inventory. Grab a latte or milkshake at the 1890’s style bar. If you want to buy a handmade cowboy or cowgirl hat visit Catalena Hatters. For cute western clothes and accessories head next door to Texas Rose Boutique. Shop for cute Mexican clothes and souvenirs at Itza Bip Market. If you want to relax and grab a cup of coffee in Downtown Bryan check out Harvest Coffee Co.

1 p.m. After a morning of shopping, head to The Vintage House Restaurant to enjoy a relaxing brunch. This restaurant is located on the Messina Hof Estate. I would recommend you to sit in The Atrium, because you will be able to enjoy your meal looking at colorful stained-glass windows with views of the vineyard. It’s the perfect backdrop to enjoy a delicious brunch with a glass of wine. For an appetizer, John and I had the Crispy Risotto cakes with Merlot Marinada and they were very good. I ordered the Brisket Hash as my meal and this dish was very tasty.

2:30p.m. On your way out of Messina Hof Estate stop by Joy Pottery. This is a lovely pottery store with beautiful handmade stoneware to use in the kitchen or table. This is a perfect place to buy a unique gift. If you are interested in learning how to make pottery, they offer classes and the price is very reasonable.

3 p.m. Visit the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum to learn about the life of the 41st President of the United States. I was amazed of how great this museum is, and I learned a lot about George H.W. Bush. I recommend buying your ticket through Groupon, because it’s cheaper. Also, watch the video when you enter the museum, because it will explain a lot of things. John and I had a great time exploring this museum.

6 p.m. For dinner head to Elia Cafe Tapas Bar. This place is in a beautiful historic building. An absolutely lovely spot to enjoy a delicious dinner in Bryan! You can enjoy live music during the weekend. Make sure to check their calendar, because sometimes they have live music during the week. Try their seasonal sangria or the traditional one. I also recommend you to try the Patatas Bravas, Croquetas de Jamon, and Chorizos a la Sidra. This is a restaurant I would definitely visit again. I’m getting hungry just writing this!

7:45 p.m. Catch a live concert at The Palace Theater, a historic outdoor theater in Downtown Bryan. The vibe here is super fun and welcoming, making it the perfect spot to enjoy good music and a great night out!

10 p.m. After the concert walk around Downton Bryan and stop for drinks at Hush and Whisper Distillery Co. This is such a unique place to visit, because the interior is absolutely beautiful and reminds me of The Great Gatsby. The drinks are very good, and the bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. They have amazing mocktails if you don’t drink. The ambience is very chill and perfect to enjoy drinks with friends or with your partner. They offer Private Tasting and Distillery Tour and tasting for only $10 per person. You can book your tasting on the website.

Sunday

9 a.m. Head to Polite Coffee Roasters for coffee and a pastry. This coffee house is located inside the historic Kyle House from 1898. Enjoy your coffee on the porch or inside the beautiful remodeled home. Try one of the season lattes. We went during fall, so I had the Polite Spice Latte and it was delightful.

10 a.m. After grabbing some coffee, head over to PaddleEZ to experience kayaking or paddle boarding at Lake Bryan. Be sure to make your reservation online in advance. Once you arrive, you’ll find that life jackets and paddles are stored in a locked locker. At your reserved time, you’ll receive a code to unlock it. Note that there is no staff on-site for assistance; support is available through text message only. John and I enjoyed kayaking in the calm water while taking in the beautiful scenery.

12 p.m. After being on the lake and before heading back home have a tasty brunch at 3rd on Main. You must try the Main Event dish, which comes with savory cornbread pancakes, pulled pork, and white cheese queso. This meal was mouthwatering!

2 p.m. Catch a movie in The Queen Theatre, a historic theatre from 1939 and the first air conditioned movie theatre west of the Mississippi River. If you get hungry or just want a quick snack, you can order straight from your phone and have it delivered right to your seat—super easy and convenient!

5 p.m. If you’re hungry and looking for a fun spot to eat and hang out, check out The Owl – Pub & Grill. It has a lively atmosphere with a stylish interior and a spacious outdoor patio, perfect for kicking back and relaxing. You can play darts, snap some fun pictures in the photo booth, and just enjoy the good vibes. It’s the perfect place for a laid-back Sunday evening!

Hospédate en un encantador refugio campestre con Edith. A John y a mí nos encantó quedarnos en su tranquila granja porque ella es una anfitriona increíble y fue una experiencia muy relajante. Tienes tu propia habitación y baño, pero compartirás la sala y la cocina con Edith. Esta fue nuestra primera vez haciendo algo así, y aunque al principio estábamos un poco nerviosos, terminamos amando toda la experiencia. La casa de Edith se sentía como hogar; ella fue muy amable e incluso nos horneó muffins y preparó café para disfrutar por la mañana. Su casa puede alojar hasta 4 personas y se permiten mascotas. El lugar tiene mucho encanto, con sus antiguas paredes de ladrillo y detalles acogedores que te hacen sentir como si viajaras en el tiempo. ¡No olvides echar un vistazo a la sala trasera! Está llena de murales vibrantes y coloridos que le dan un toque artístico y divertido al espacio.

9 a.m. Visita The Farm Patch, un mercado al aire libre y centro de jardinería conocido por sus productos frescos, plantas y frutas y verduras de temporada. Es un favorito local y está en funcionamiento desde 1974. Durante octubre, tienen un hermoso campo de calabazas con muchas actividades y lindos lugares para fotos de otoño. Me encanta este lugar porque tiene ese ambiente de mercado de pueblo pequeño.

10 a.m. Ve de compras en el Historic Downtown Bryan, lleno de edificios restaurados. Es el fondo perfecto para disfrutar un brunch delicioso con una copa de vino. Como aperitivo, John y yo probamos los pasteles de risotto crujientes con marinada de Merlot, y estaban muy buenos. Para el plato principal, pedí el hash de brisket, ¡muy sabroso!

2:30 p.m. Al salir de Messina Hof Estate, pasa por Joy Pottery, una encantadora tienda de cerámica con hermosas piezas de gres hechas a mano para la cocina o la mesa. Es el lugar perfecto para comprar un regalo único. También ofrecen clases de cerámica a un precio razonable si quieres aprender.

3 p.m. Visita la Biblioteca y Museo Presidencial George H.W. Bush para aprender sobre la vida del 41º presidente de los Estados Unidos. Me sorprendió lo impresionante que es este museo y aprendí mucho sobre la historia de George H.W. Bush. Recomiendo comprar el boleto por Groupon, ya que es más barato, y ver el video al entrar al museo, pues explica muchos detalles. John y yo disfrutamos mucho explorando este museo.

6 p.m. Para cenar, ve a Elia Cafe Tapas Bar. Este lugar está en un hermoso edificio histórico, perfecto para una deliciosa cena en Bryan. Tienen música en vivo los fines de semana, pero revisa su calendario, ya que a veces hay música en vivo entre semana. Prueba su sangría de temporada o la tradicional. También recomiendo probar las Patatas Bravas, Croquetas de Jamón y Chorizos a la Sidra. ¡Definitivamente es un restaurante al que regresaría!

7:45 p.m. Disfruta de un concierto en vivo en The Palace Theater, un histórico teatro al aire libre en el centro de Bryan. El ambiente aquí es súper divertido y acogedor, lo que lo convierte en el lugar perfecto para disfrutar de buena música y una noche increíble.
