Intro

Houston, Texas is a fun city to explore since it’s very diverse. It has culture, entertainment, a unique food scene and a fun night life. If you are planning on coming to explore this vibrant city, this itinerary will show you fun things to do in Houston to have a weekend full of adventures.

Houston is my home city and there is always something to do and new places to discover. I made this itinerary with some of my favorite places around the city, where I love to go out with my friends and family like Downtown, East Downtown and the Museum District. Enjoy!

Where to Stay

Wanderstay Boutique Hotel, a cute boutique hotel located in the east side of Houston. This hotel has everything you need for the perfect getaway and is very close to many restaurants, bars and coffee shops.

Thompson Houston is a brand new hotel right on the Buffalo Bayou. It has spectacular views of the Houston skyline and the pool is perfect for relaxing. You can also use the electric-bikes to go around the Buffalo Bayou trails. It’s centrally located and very close to downtown Houston.

Best Way to Move Around

Houston is a big city and you will need to rent a car or use Uber to move around. Houston is not a walkable city, specially during the summer. If you want to rent a car, I recommend you to use Turo. It’s a car sharing company and is really easy to use and more affordable than renting a car, in my opinion.

Friday

8:30 a.m. Grab breakfast at EaDough, this is one of my favorite bakeries in Houston. Enjoy delicious pastries, breakfast sandwiches and coffee.

10 a.m. Take a Houston City Tour on a double decker bus. This is a lot of fun because you will get to explore downtown Houston and see interesting sights as you learn about the city.

12 p.m. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Finn Hall, a European-inspired food hall with tons of food options.

2 p.m. After eating head to Discovery Park and Avenida Houston. There are fun sculptures and fountains you can take pictures with. Check Discovery Park‘s website because there is always something fun happening here.

6 p.m. For dinner go to POST Houston, which is a food hall located in a historic landmark building since it was once the hub of the city’s U.S. mail system. This food hall is one of my favorite ones in the city because it has a variety of local vendors and restaurants, which represent the diversity of the city. After enjoying a tasty meal, go up the skylawn to enjoy beats by a DJ while you watch the sunset with the Houston skyline.

10 p.m. If you want to go out for a fun night in town just walk to Main Street and check out all of the bars and nightclubs. Some of my favorite places are:

• McIntyre’s Downtown – two story bar with a good view of downtown Houston
• Angel Share – very chill bar with very good cocktails and bites
• Captain Foxheart’s Bad News Bar & Spirit Lodge – speakeasy bar with a balcony to Main Street
• Behind Closed Doors – This place has 3 different rooms and each one has it’s own vibe
• Soho Garden HTX: Super cute outdoor lounge with very pretty cocktails
• La Diabla Retro Bar – Live music with Rock Pop in Spanish. If you get hungry try the flautas.
• Fabian’s – Latin music and the perfect for dancing

Saturday

9 a.m. Grab a quick bite and coffee at Eden Plant. This coffee shop is one of my favorite ones in Houston because it’s also a plant shop and it’s super cute.

11 a.m. Take a fascinating tour of the Houston Cistern and enjoy a very unique art installation – HaHa Real, which is available until September of 2024. If you aren’t able to see this Art Installation you can also take a tour to learn about the Houston Cistern history.

12 p.m. Enjoy a delicious brunch at Flora, this is a beautiful restaurant surrounded by ceiling to floor windows, capturing the beautiful scenery around the restaurant.

2 p.m. Walk or bike around Buffalo Bayou. Enjoy a stunning view of the Houston Downtown skyline from Eleanor Tinsley Park. 

4 p.m. Head back to the hotel to rest and to get ready for a night of adventures.

6 p.m. Enjoy a fun night out at East Downtown Houston, or as we locals call it EaDo. Start at Truck Yard to grab food from the food trucks and good cocktails while you listen to live music. Don’t forget to ride the ferris wheel, it’s a lot of fun!

8 p.m. After eating head to Sunset for drinks with a nice view of the Houston skyline.

Other fun places to check out around this area are 8th Wonder Brewery to listen to live music, Chapman and Kirby to enjoy drinks at a nice patio, and Lightnin’s Good Times to dance the night away and try creative cocktails. 

Sunday

8: a.m. Enjoy an Australian brunch at Bluestone Lane. Some of my favorite dishes are the Folded Chimichurri Eggs & Bacon Toast, BL Big Brekkie, and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. They also have a variety of refreshing smoothies and lattes. Try the Chai Latte hot, it’s my favorite one!

9:30 a.m. Once you finish brunch, walk around Rice Village and enjoy some local shopping from unique boutiques from Houston. Grab a delicious pastry from one of my favorite bakeries, Badolina.

12:30 p.m. After exploring Rice Village, go to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, which is the second largest art museum in the United States. If you get hungry grab a bite at Cafe Leonelli inside the Museum. It also serves delicious pastries and coffee. Also, don’t forget to take a picture by the iconic, “Cloud Column.”

3 p.m. Another fun museum to explore is the Museum of Natural Science. This is a very popular museum where you will be able to see dinosaur bones and unique exhibitions.

6 p.m. After a day of exploring museums, finish your day with a delicious dinner at Sixty Vines, a casual American kitchen and wine bar with delicious charcuterie boards and spreads. 

Summary

With its blend of culture, cuisine, and outdoor activities, a weekend in Houston promises to be an unforgettable experience filled with fun and adventure.

Houston, Texas es una ciudad divertida para explorar, ya que es muy diversa. Tiene cultura, entretenimiento, una escena gastronómica única y una vida nocturna animada. Si planeas venir a explorar esta vibrante ciudad, este itinerario te mostrará cosas divertidas para hacer en Houston y tener un fin de semana lleno de aventuras.

Houston es mi ciudad natal y siempre hay algo que hacer y nuevos lugares por descubrir. Hice este itinerario con algunos de mis lugares favoritos alrededor de la ciudad, donde me encanta salir con mis amigos y familiares, como el centro, el este del centro y el distrito de museos. ¡Disfruta!

Dónde Hospedarse

Wanderstay Boutique Hotel, un encantador hotel ubicado en el lado este de Houston. Este hotel tiene todo lo que necesitas para una escapada perfecta y está muy cerca de muchos restaurantes, bares y cafeterías.

El Thompson Houston es un hotel completamente nuevo en la cuidad, ubicado justo en el Buffalo Bayou. Ofrece vistas espectaculares del horizonte de Houston y su piscina es perfecta para relajarse. También puedes usar las bicicletas eléctricas para recorrer los senderos de Buffalo Bayou. Está ubicado en una zona céntrica, muy cerca del centro de Houston.

Mejor Manera de Moverse

Houston es una ciudad grande y necesitarás alquilar un coche o usar Uber para desplazarte. Houston no es una ciudad para caminar, especialmente durante el verano. Si deseas alquilar un coche, te recomiendo usar Turo. Es una empresa de carsharing y es muy fácil de usar y más asequible que alquilar un coche, en mi opinión.

Viernes

8:30 a.m. Desayuna en EaDough,, una de mis panaderías favoritas en Houston. Disfruta de deliciosos pasteles, sándwiches de desayuno y café.

10 a.m. Haz un tour con Houston City Tour por la ciudad de Houston en un autobús de dos pisos. Es muy divertido porque podrás explorar el centro de Houston y ver lugares interesantes mientras aprendes sobre la ciudad.

12 p.m. Disfruta de un delicioso almuerzo en Finn Hall, un mercado gastronómico inspirado en Europa con muchas opciones de comida.

2 p.m. Después de comer, dirígete al Discovery Green y la Avenida Houston. Hay esculturas y fuentes divertidas con las que puedes tomar fotos. Revisa el sitio web de Discovery Park porque siempre hay algo divertido ocurriendo aquí.

6 p.m. Para cenar, ve a POST Houston, que es un mercado gastronómico ubicado en un edificio histórico que solía ser el centro del sistema postal de la ciudad. Este mercado gastronómico es uno de mis favoritos en la ciudad porque tiene una variedad de vendedores y restaurantes locales que representan la diversidad de la ciudad. Después de disfrutar de una deliciosa comida, sube al skylawn para disfrutar de la música de un DJ mientras ves el atardecer con el horizonte de Houston.

10 p.m. Si quieres salir por una noche divertida en la ciudad, solo camina hacia Main Street y revisa todos los bares y clubes nocturnos. Algunos de mis lugares favoritos son:

• McIntyre’s Downtown: Bar de dos pisos con una buena vista del centro de Houston.
• Angel Share: Bar muy relajado con muy buenos cócteles y aperitivos.
• Captain Foxheart’s Bad News Bar & Spirit Lodge : Bar speakeasy con un balcón que da a Main Street.
• Behind Closed Doors: Este lugar tiene 3 habitaciones diferentes y cada una tiene su propia vibra.
• Soho Garden HTX: Lounge al aire libre muy lindo con cócteles muy bonitos.
• La Diabla Retro Bar: Música en vivo con Rock Pop en español. Si te da hambre, prueba las flautas.
• Fabian’s : Música latina, perfecto para bailar.

Sábado

9 a.m. Toma un bocado rápido y café en Eden Plant. Esta cafetería es una de mis favoritas en Houston porque también es una tienda de plantas y es súper linda.

11 a.m. Realiza un fascinante tour por el Houston Cistern y disfruta de una instalación artística muy única – HaHa Real, que estará disponible hasta septiembre de 2024. Si no puedes ver esta instalación artística, también puedes hacer un tour para conocer la historia del Houston Cistern .

12 p.m. Disfruta de un delicioso brunch en Flora, un hermoso restaurante rodeado de ventanales que capturan el hermoso paisaje alrededor del restaurante.

2 p.m. Camina o anda en bicicleta por Buffalo Bayou. Disfruta de una vista impresionante del horizonte del centro de Houston desde el Eleanor Tinsley Park. 

4 p.m. Regresa al hotel para descansar y prepararte para una noche de aventuras.

6 p.m. Disfruta de una noche divertida en East Downtown Houston, o como lo llamamos los locales, EaDo. Empieza en Truck Yard para comer en los camiones de comida y disfrutar de buenos cócteles mientras escuchas música en vivo. ¡No te olvides de montar en la rueda de la fortuna, es muy divertido!

8 p.m. Después de comer, dirígete a Sunset  para tomar algo con una hermosa vista del horizonte de Houston.

Otros lugares divertidos para visitar en esta área son 8th Wonder Brewery para escuchar música en vivo, Chapman and Kirby  para disfrutar de bebidas en un agradable patio, y Lightnin’s Good Times para bailar toda la noche y probar cócteles creativos.

Domingo

8 a.m. Disfruta de un brunch australiano en Bluestone Lane. Algunos de mis platos favoritos son los Folded Chimichurri Eggs & Bacon Toast, BL Big Brekkie y Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. También tienen una variedad de smoothies y lattes refrescantes. ¡Prueba el Chai Latte caliente, es mi favorito!

9:30 a.m. Una vez que termines el brunch, da un paseo por Rice Village  y disfruta de algunas compras locales en boutiques únicas de Houston. Consigue un delicioso pastel de una de mis panaderías favoritas, Badolina.

12:30 p.m. Después de explorar Rice Village, ve al Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, que es el segundo museo de arte más grande de los Estados Unidos. Si tienes hambre, come algo en Cafe Leonelli dentro del Museo. Sirven deliciosos pasteles y café. También, no te olvides de tomarte una foto junto a la icónica “Cloud Column.”

3 p.m. Otro museo divertido para explorar es el Museum of Natural Science. Este es un museo muy popular donde podrás ver huesos de dinosaurios y exposiciones únicas.

6 p.m. Después de un día explorando museos, termina tu día con una deliciosa cena en Sixty Vines, una cocina americana informal y bar de vinos con deliciosas tablas de charcutería y untar.

Resumen

Con su combinación de cultura, cocina y actividades al aire libre, un fin de semana en Houston promete ser una experiencia inolvidable llena de diversión y aventura.
