Exploring Port Aransas is a delightful experience, and the best way to navigate this charming coastal town is undoubtedly by golf cart.

Where to Eat

Port Aransas is a culinary gem, offering a variety of restaurants, coffee shops and sweet treats that cater to everyone. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh seafood, classic American food, or international cuisine, this vibrant coastal town has something to satisfy your cravings.

Restaurants:

• Seafood & Spaghetti Works – Founded in 1978 as a water slide complex  and later transforming to a restaurant this place has a lot of history. Enjoy delicious food and a very welcoming ambiance. If you are very hungry or want to share a plate with someone, I recommend you to order the Giant Pasta Platter it’s super good and a nice sampler of three different pastas.
• The Gaff – a pirate-theme pizza restaurant with a fun atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and will give you good recommendations. Try the World Famous Gaffer Pizza, it’s very good, specially after a day in the beach. Enjoy live music on the weekends.
• Restaurant San Juan – enjoy delicious authentic Mexican food and aguas frescas. Affordable prices and good portions perfect after a day in Port Aransas Beach. Try the Shrimp Enchiladas or Red Fish & Shrimp.
• Virginia’s on the Bay – Beautiful view of the bay and open-air restaurant. Make sure you add yourself to the waitlist in Google because this place gets pretty packed. We enjoyed the Calamari and Mahi Mahi with steamed rice and veggies. The service was phenomenal even when the restaurant was completely full.

Coffee Shops:

• Coffee Waves – A local favorite. This place is always pack, but it’s worth the wait. Very cute coffee shop with beautiful art decor and great service. Has a drive-through.
• Barefoot Beans – Cozy place with indoor and outdoor seating. Great service and atmosphere. It even has a store with lots of unique things. Definitely a hidden gem in Port A!

Ice Cream:

• Desserted Island Ice Cream – quirky ice cream store with a variety of ice cream flavors from Blue Bell. You must try the Brownie Sundae, its very good and they make fresh brownies each day. If you like shakes try one of their delicious coffee shakes. This place is cash only.
• Port A Creamery – Unique ice cream flavors. I had the Hot Fudge with Oatmeal ice cream and it was delicious! John ordered a coffee milkshake and it was also very tasty and refreshing after swimming at the beach. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Beaches to Visit

If you decide to go to Port Aransas Beach, you will have to pay a $12 parking fee per day, which you can buy from a gas station.

If you are planning on camping and taking your RV, the beach at Mustang Island State Park is a great place to enjoy some waves, wildlife, surf fishing. You will also be able to have restrooms and showers nearby.

If you want to get away from the crowds, I recommend you to visit San Jose Island, a beautiful virgin island, which you can visit by taking a ferry that’s $18 per person. You can buy the ferry ticket at Fisherman’s Wharf. You will be able to enjoy an empty beach and see an array of wildlife. We saw dolphins, sea turtles and lots of birds when we visited this island. I recommend you to pack food, snacks and drinks because there is nothing at the island.

Attractions

• The Wonders of Port Aransas – If you enjoy history and like to know about the culture and historic importance of Port Aransas, I recommend you to visit each of these wonders. They showcase the unique charm and natural beauty of Port Aransas. All of these places are free to visit and I recommend you to visit them in this order.
  • Farley Boat Works – You will get to see how Farley Boats are built and the history behind these iconic boats. When we visited this place we were able to see how a Farley Boat was being painted. This is a great place to learn about maritime history and craftsmanship.
  • The Tarpoon Inn – Visit a historic hotel from 1886. It is the oldest surviving building in Port Aransas. Check out the lobby, which is adorned with tarpon scales, each telling a story of the past. You will be also be able to see historic pictures hanging all around the lobby.

• The Port Aransas Museum – offers a glimpse of the rich history and cultural heritage of the area. Housed in a historic 20th-century house, this is a fascinating place to learn about the development and transformation of this coastal community. Ask for Cliff when you visit because he does an amazing job explaining and answering all of your questions.

• The Jetties – The jetties play an important part in history for Port Aransas, because they protect the harbor and serve as a breakwater. You can learn how they were made at The Port Aransas Museum and much of a sacrifice it took to built them. The jetties are perfect to see stunning ocean views, wildlife and fishermen fishing.

• Lydia Ann Lighthouse – This historic structure was built in 1855. You can see the Lighthouse from the south jetty of Port Aransas or on the ferry ride to San Jose. It was designed to guide ships through the natural pass between San Jose and Mustang islands to Corpus Christi Bay. 
• Jet Ski Tour with Gettin’ Salty – If you are looking for a thrill adventure, I recommend you to book a jet ski tour. It’s a lot of fun and you will get to see a lot of wildlife up close. One of my favorite things about doing this tour was to get close to the famous Lydia Ann Lighthouse and seeing dolphins swim right next to us.

• Port Aransas Nature Preserve – This is a beautiful natural habitat for birds and alligators. It’s very peaceful and relaxing to walk along the boardwalks. We enjoyed visiting this place because we got to see a lot of wildlife up close and the views are lovely from the observation towers. The best time to visit this area would be in the spring and fall because during the summer it might be too hot.

Night Life

A night out in Port Aransas is a memorable experience because as the sun goes down the town comes alive with live music and dancing. Below are three local places we visited and enjoyed on our night out in Port Aransas. All of these places are within walking distance to one another.

• We started our night at The Gaff, which is a a pirate-theme pizza restaurant with a chill atmosphere. We tried the World Famous Gaffer Pizza and it was very good, specially after a day of exploring Port Aransas. The Pizzas was perfect for the two of us. To drink we tried their Sangria on tap and they were refreshing. We enjoyed the live music, friendly service and pirate decoration.
• For our second location, we went to Shorty’s Place. You have to go inside this bar because it’s all decorated with a lot of hats. Drinks here were very cheap and good. On the patio we enjoyed a local band and they were just amazing!
• We finished our night at Treasures Island, which is ultimate bar experience because it has three bars in one. One bar has live music, there is one indoor one with a very chill atmosphere, if you just want to relax and talk. The third bar is a nigh club with a DJ and very good music, perfect place to dance the night away!

Playas para Visitar

Si decides ir a la playa de Port Aransas, tendrás que pagar una tarifa de estacionamiento de $12 por día, que puedes comprar en una gasolinera.

Si planeas acampar y llevar tu casa rodante, la playa en el parque estatal de la isla Mustang es un excelente lugar para disfrutar de las olas, la vida silvestre y la pesca con surf. También tendrás baños y duchas cercanas.

Si quieres alejarte de las multitudes, te recomiendo visitar la isla de San José, una hermosa isla virgen a la que puedes llegar tomando un ferry que cuesta $18 por persona. Puedes comprar el boleto del ferry en Fisherman’s Wharf. Podrás disfrutar de una playa vacía y ver una gran variedad de vida silvestre. Vimos delfines, tortugas marinas y muchas aves cuando visitamos esta isla. Te recomiendo llevar comida, bocadillos y bebidas porque no hay nada en la isla.

Si disfrutas de la historia y te gusta conocer la cultura e importancia histórica de Port Aransas, te recomiendo visitar cada una de estas maravillas. Muestran el encanto único y la belleza natural de Port Aransas. Todos estos lugares son gratuitos y te sugiero visitarlos en este orden:

Farley Boat Works – Aquí podrás ver cómo se construyen los barcos Farley y la historia detrás de estos icónicos barcos. Cuando visitamos este lugar, pudimos ver cómo se pintaba un barco Farley. Es un gran lugar para aprender sobre la historia marítima y la artesanía.

The Tarpon Inn – Visita un hotel histórico de 1886, el edificio más antiguo que sigue en pie en Port Aransas. Echa un vistazo al vestíbulo, adornado con escamas de tarpón, cada una contando una historia del pasado. También podrás ver fotos históricas colgadas por todo el vestíbulo.

El Museo de Port Aransas – Ofrece una visión de la rica historia y herencia cultural del área. Ubicado en una casa histórica del siglo XX, es un lugar fascinante para aprender sobre el desarrollo y la transformación de esta comunidad costera. Una de mis cosas favoritas de hacer este tour fue acercarnos al famoso Faro de Lydia Ann y ver delfines nadando justo a nuestro lado.

Port Aransas Nature Preserve – Este es un hermoso hábitat natural para aves y caimanes. Es muy pacífico y relajante caminar por las pasarelas. Disfrutamos visitar este lugar porque pudimos ver mucha vida silvestre de cerca y las vistas son encantadoras desde las torres de observación. El mejor momento para visitar esta área es en primavera y otoño, ya que durante el verano puede hacer demasiado calor.

Vida Nocturna

Salir de noche en Port Aransas es una experiencia memorable porque, cuando cae el sol, la ciudad cobra vida con música en vivo y baile. A continuación, te presento tres lugares locales que visitamos y disfrutamos en nuestra salida nocturna en Port Aransas. Todos estos lugares están a poca distancia unos de otros.

The Gaff – Comenzamos nuestra noche en The Gaff, un restaurante de pizza con temática pirata y un ambiente relajado. Probamos la World Famous Gaffer Pizza y estaba muy buena, especialmente después de un día explorando Port Aransas. La pizza fue perfecta para los dos. Para beber, probamos su sangría de barril, que fue refrescante. Disfrutamos de la música en vivo, el servicio amigable y la decoración pirata.

Shorty’s Place. – Para nuestra segunda parada, fuimos a Shorty’s Place. Tienes que entrar a este bar porque está decorado con muchos sombreros. Las bebidas aquí eran muy baratas y buenas. En el patio, disfrutamos de una banda local que fue simplemente increíble.

Treasures Island – Terminamos nuestra noche en Treasure Island, que ofrece la experiencia definitiva de bar porque tiene tres bares en uno. Un bar tiene música en vivo, hay uno interior con un ambiente muy relajado, perfecto si solo quieres relajarte y hablar. El tercer bar es una discoteca con DJ y muy buena música, ¡el lugar perfecto para bailar toda la noche!
