New Orleans is a vibrant destination, offering a rich blend of exciting activities and mouthwatering cuisine. It’s a city where music, culture, and history come alive, creating the perfect atmosphere for an unforgettable experience. As you stroll through its streets, you’re surrounded by stunning historic architecture, while the sounds of live music drift from cafés and street performers captivate your senses. Every visit to New Orleans feels magical, especially in the French Quarter, where the energy and charm make you feel as if you’ve stepped into a world of its own.

This 3-day itinerary will show you my favorite things to do in New Orleans from delicious eateries, museums, live music venues, and where to see beautiful views of the city. I hope you have an phenomenal time exploring this iconic city!

Where to Stay

New Orleans has a variety of hotels from historic to modern. Below are some of the best hotels in New Orleans where I have stayed throughout the years with my family.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New Orleans – This hotel is located in Canal Street and the location is amazing since it’s very close to the French Quarter, Jackson Square restaurants and cafes.

Hilton New Orleans Riverside – Location is very convenient to get to other tourist sites around New Orleans. Some rooms have a beautiful view of the Mississippi River.

Holiday Inn Hotel French Quarter-Chateau Lemoyne – One block off Bourbon Street. Cafe Beignet is just around the corner. It’s a budget hotel and the price is very good for the location.

Omni Riverfront New Orleans – In a great location, close to many restaurants and attractions. Friendly and good service. An older building with a modern interior.

Best Way to Move Around

The French Quarter and other areas around are very walkable. But if you need to use a car sharing company you can use Uber. If you are staying by the French Quarter is better to not have a car because parking can be a little complicated and hotels charge for valet or garage parking.

Another great way to see the city is by using the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour. You will be able to take in the highlights of New Orleans at your own leisure as you hop-on and hop- off this double decker bus.

Day 1

7:30 a.m. Start your day with breakfast at Mena’s Palace Restaurant. This restaurant is a local favorite which has been open since the 1950s. You need to order the chicken fried steak is very tasty.

8:45 a.m. Get pick up from your hotel to go on an airboat swamp tour through the Louisiana bayou. See real alligators and other wildlife and even get to touch a baby alligator. This a fun and thrilling tour. My family and I took it and we really enjoyed every second of it.

1 p.m. After the tour, enjoyed a delicious gumbo and the famous muffuletta at Napoleon House. This place is over 200 years old and is the first establishment in America to offer Pimm’s Cups. When you step inside the restaurant you will be transported to the old New Orleans. If the weather is nice enjoy your meal on the lovely patio.

2:30p.m. Go to get some rest at the hotel to be ready for an evening of adventures and music.

4:30p.m. Head to Vue Orleans, which is an observation deck with 360-degree view of the city. It also has exhibitions where you will learn about the culture and history of New Orleans. From the stunning skyline to the immersive cultural displays this place is a must-visit!

6:30 p.m. Enjoy a delicious dinner at Arabella Casa Di Pasta, this place has amazing homemade pastas with flavorful sauces. You can even build-your own pasta. The service is excellent and the prices are reasonable.

8:30 p.m. Walk to Frenchmen Street and enjoy some shopping at Frenchmen Art Bazaar, an eclectic market that comes to life at night. You will be able to see local artists showcase their creations, from paintings to handcrafted jewelry. It’s the perfect place to find a unique souvenir.

9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. After some local shopping head to the different music venues to enjoy live music and dance the night away. Frenchmen Street is where the locals of New Orleans like to go out because is a place where the music, art, and spirit of the city come together to create a very unique experience. Below are some of my favorite spots on Frenchmen Street:

• The Spotted Cat – a cozy iconic venue know for its authentic live jazz.
• Apple Barrel Bar – Small and laid-back spot with raw and authentic live music.
• Cafe Negril – lively venue known for reggae, rock, and blues performances.
• Favela Chic – a dynamic venue that brings the vibrant energy of Brazil. Known for eclectic mix of live music. It offers a multicultural atmosphere!
• 30°/-90° – upscale music venue with funk and modern music performances.

Day 2

9:30 a.m. Enjoy a delicious breakfast at Surrey’s. This is a local spot with breakfast all-day. The menu has local food items with a hint of Latin flavor. The decor of this cafe is eclectic and funky. It’s also the oldest organic juice bar in New Orleans.

11 a.m. Head to Mardi Gras World, a massive warehouse where you will be able to learn about the history of Mardi Gras and see the fascinating behind-the-scenes of how floats are built and made. It’s a great spot to visit in New Orleans if you want to experience the magic of Mardi Gras year around!

1 p.m. For lunch head to Ruby Sleeper in Magazine Street. This is one of my favorite restaurants for brunch in New Orleans and I love this location because you can always find a seat without having to wait too long. Try the Egg Cochon Bennies, they are super yummy!

2:30 p.m. After a tasty lunch enjoy a day of shopping and sightseeing on Magazine Street. This is a very famous street which is 6-miles long and is filled with a variety of local boutiques, art galleries, antique shops, museums and restaurants. Some of my favorite in Magazine Street are:

• French Truck Coffee – a local coffee shop with delicious coffee and teas.
• Fleurty Girl – New Orlean’s boutique shop with lots of cute souvenirs for you to take home.
• Miette – Mom and daughter owned boutique shop with costume pieces and accessories.
• Alligator Museum – A fascinating museum featuring captivating exhibits and intriguing facts about alligators. It offers a diverse collection of unique trinkets, fossils, and curiosities. The staff is warm, welcoming, and highly knowledgeable.

6 p.m. For dinner go to Acme Oyster House. This place is known for it’s delicious oysters, po’ boys, gumbo & other Cajun-Creole classics. Try the Seafood Étouffée and Seafood Gumbo. I love the service and fun ambience of this place.

7:30 p.m. Watch street performers and artists as you walk around the French Quarter and Jackson Square.

9 p.m. Grab beignets and coffee at the famous Cafe Du Monde. This is my mom’s favorite beignet place and every time we go to New Orleans with her we always have make a stop at Cafe Du Monde. We like going to the one right on the French Quarter because you can enjoy music as you eat your beignets and enjoy your Café au lait. The service there is always very good.

10 p.m. to 2 a.m. If you want to continue the night head to Bourbon Street for some fun and live music. One of my favorite places in Bourbon Street is Ticklers Dueling Piano Bar, which has great piano musicians who know how to put on a great show. You will be dancing and singing all night long! 

Day 3

9 a.m. Enjoy breakfast at my favorite and cutest beignet place in New Orleans, Cafe Beignet on Royal Street. This is a charming cafe with a beautiful decor. Try the beignets by themselves or with chocolate or strawberry sauce. One thing I love about this cafe besides the decor is that it has a variety of coffee options.

10:30 a.m. Head to The Sazerac House, which is an immersive museum and distillery that celebrates the city’s rich cocktail history. It has interactive exhibits, cocktail demonstrations, and tastings. You will learn about the iconic Sazerac cocktail and its history. This destination is a must-visit! It’s FREE to visit, but I recommend you to make a reservation on the website since this place can get very packed.

12:30 p.m. Stop by Hove’ Parfumeur, a historic 18th century historic perfume shop where you can buy handmade soaps, lotions and perfumes.

1 p.m. Visit the St. Louis Cathedral, which is the oldest continuously active Roman Catholic Cathedral in the United States. It was originally built in 1727 and dedicated to King Louis IX of France. It’s also is one of New Orleans’ most notable landmarks. The interior and artwork of the cathedral is breathtaking and is definitely worth check it out!

2 p.m. Go shopping for unique souvenirs at the French Market. This market has been open since 1791. If you get hungry grab a snack from one of the local vendors.

5 p.m. Have a delicious dinner at Mother’s Restaurant, which is a local favorite. This place is now one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans and I plan to visit it every-time I go back. My boyfriend and I ordered the Seafood Platter Extra Extra and everything in it was very good and crispy. It was the perfect portion for the two of us.

6:30 p.m. to 9: 30 p.m. Enjoy an evening on the historic Steamboat Natchez with live jazz, breathtaking views of the Mississippi River, and a taste of the city’s history. This was one of my favorite experiences in New Orleans because you will be transported to a different era. And, the views of the sunset as it sets on the city are just magical! Arrive early to grab a drink and a good seat.

Dónde Hospedarse

Nueva Orleans tiene una gran variedad de hoteles, desde históricos hasta modernos. A continuación, te comparto algunos de los mejores hoteles en los que me he alojado con mi familia a lo largo de los años.

La Mejor Manera de Moverse

El French Quarter y otras áreas cercanas son muy fáciles de recorrer a pie. Pero si necesitas usar un servicio de transporte compartido, puedes optar por Uber. Si te estás alojando en el French Quarter, es mejor no tener un coche, ya que el estacionamiento puede ser un poco complicado y los hoteles suelen cobrar por el servicio de valet o el estacionamiento en garaje.

Otra excelente manera de conocer la ciudad es usando el Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour. Podrás disfrutar de los principales atractivos de Nueva Orleans a tu propio ritmo, subiendo y bajando de este autobús de dos pisos cuando lo desees.

Día 1

7:30 a.m. Comienza tu día con un desayuno en Mena’s Palace Restaurant.  Este restaurante, que ha sido un favorito local desde la década de 1950, es el lugar perfecto para probar un buen desayuno sureño. Te recomiendo pedir el chicken fried steak, ¡es delicioso!

8:45 a.m. Te recogerán en tu hotel para hacer un tour en airboat por los pantanos del bayou de Luisiana. En este emocionante recorrido, verás caimanes reales y otras especies de la vida silvestre, e incluso tendrás la oportunidad de tocar un caimán bebé. Mi familia y yo lo hicimos, ¡y disfrutamos cada segundo!

1 p.m. Después del tour, disfruta de un delicioso gumbo y la famosa muffuletta en Napoleon House, un restaurante con más de 200 años de historia. Además, es el primer lugar en Estados Unidos en ofrecer el cóctel Pimm’s Cup. Al entrar, sentirás como si viajaras en el tiempo a la antigua Nueva Orleans. Si el clima lo permite, disfruta tu comida en su encantador patio.

2:30 p.m. Regresa al hotel para descansar un poco y estar listo para una tarde llena de aventuras y música.

4:30 p.m. Visita Vue Orleans, un mirador con una vista de 360 grados de la ciudad. Además, cuenta con exhibiciones interactivas que te enseñarán sobre la cultura e historia de Nueva Orleans. Desde el impresionante horizonte hasta las exhibiciones culturales, ¡es un lugar imperdible!

6:30 p.m. Disfruta de una deliciosa cena en Arabella Casa Di Pasta, donde encontrarás increíbles pastas caseras con salsas llenas de sabor. Incluso puedes crear tu propia pasta. El servicio es excelente y los precios son bastante razonables.

8:30 p.m. Camina hasta Frenchmen Street y disfruta de un rato de compras en el Frenchmen Art Bazaar, un mercado ecléctico que cobra vida por la noche. Podrás ver a artistas locales mostrando sus creaciones, desde pinturas hasta joyería artesanal. ¡Es el lugar perfecto para encontrar un souvenir único!

9:30 p.m. a 2 a.m. Después de hacer algunas compras locales, disfruta de los diferentes locales de música en vivo en Frenchmen Street y baila toda la noche. Esta calle es el lugar preferido de los locales, donde la música, el arte y el espíritu de la ciudad se combinan para crear una experiencia muy especial. Aquí te dejo algunas de mis paradas favoritas en Frenchmen Street:

9:30 a.m. Disfruta de un delicioso desayuno en Surrey’s, un lugar local que ofrece desayuno todo el día. El menú incluye platos locales con un toque de sabor latino. La decoración de este café es ecléctica y funky, y es también el bar de jugos orgánicos más antiguo de Nueva Orleans.

11 a.m. Dirígete a Mardi Gras World, un enorme almacén donde podrás aprender sobre la historia del Mardi Gras y ver el fascinante proceso detrás de la creación de las carrozas. Es un lugar ideal para visitar si quieres vivir la magia del Mardi Gras durante todo el año.

1 p.m. Almuerza en Ruby Sleeper en Magazine Street. Este es uno de mis restaurantes favoritos para el brunch en Nueva Orleans. Me encanta esta ubicación porque casi siempre encuentras asiento sin tener que esperar mucho. Prueba los Egg Cochon Bennies, ¡son deliciosos!

6 p.m. Para la cena, ve a Acme Oyster House, famoso por sus deliciosas ostras, po’ boys, gumbo y otros clásicos de la cocina cajún-creole. Prueba el Seafood Étouffée y el Seafood Gumbo. Me encanta el servicio y el ambiente divertido de este lugar.

7:30 p.m. Disfruta de los artistas callejeros mientras caminas por el French Quarter y Jackson Square. Es una experiencia mágica que te sumerge en el corazón de la cultura de la ciudad.

9 p.m. Disfruta de beignets y café en el famoso Cafe Du Monde. Este es el lugar favorito de mi mamá para beignets, y cada vez que vamos a Nueva Orleans, siempre tenemos que pasar por aquí. Nos encanta el que está en el French Quarter, ya que puedes disfrutar de música en vivo mientras saboreas tus beignets y un Café au lait. El servicio siempre es excelente.

10 p.m. a 2 a.m. Si quieres continuar la noche, dirígete a Bourbon Street para disfrutar de música en vivo y diversión. Uno de mis lugares favoritos en Bourbon Street es Ticklers Dueling Piano Bar, que cuenta con excelentes músicos de piano que saben cómo hacer un gran espectáculo. ¡Estarás bailando y cantando toda la noche!

Día 3

9 a.m. Disfruta de un delicioso desayuno en mi cafetería de beignets favorita y más encantadora de Nueva Orleans, Cafe Beignet en Royal Street. Este café tiene una decoración preciosa que te encantará. Prueba los beignets, solos o acompañados de salsa de chocolate o fresa. Además de la hermosa decoración, me encanta que el café ofrece una variedad de opciones de café.

10:30 a.m. Visita The Sazerac House, un museo y destilería inmersivo que celebra la rica historia de los cócteles de la ciudad. Cuenta con exhibiciones interactivas, demostraciones de cócteles y degustaciones. Aprenderás sobre el icónico cóctel Sazerac y su historia. ¡Este lugar es una visita obligada! La entrada es gratis, pero te recomiendo hacer una reservación en su sitio web, ya que suele llenarse.

12:30 p.m. Haz una parada en Hove’ Parfumeur, una perfumería histórica del siglo XVIII donde puedes comprar jabones, lociones y perfumes artesanales.

1 p.m. Visita la Catedral de San Luis, la catedral católica romana más antigua en funcionamiento continuo en los Estados Unidos. Fue construida originalmente en 1727 y está dedicada al Rey Luis IX de Francia. Es uno de los monumentos más importantes de Nueva Orleans. El interior y las obras de arte de la catedral son impresionantes y definitivamente vale la pena visitarla.

2 p.m. Ve de compras al French Market para conseguir souvenirs únicos. Este mercado ha estado abierto desde 1791. Si tienes hambre, toma un tentempié de alguno de los vendedores locales.

5 p.m. Cena en Mother’s Restaurant, un favorito local que se ha convertido también en uno de mis restaurantes favoritos en Nueva Orleans. Mi novio y yo pedimos el Seafood Platter Extra Extra, y todo estaba muy crujiente y delicioso. La porción fue perfecta para los dos.

6:30 p.m. a 9:30 p.m. Disfruta de una encantadora tarde a bordo del histórico Steamboat Natchez, con jazz en vivo, impresionantes vistas del río Misisipi y una experiencia llena de historia. Esta fue una de mis experiencias favoritas en Nueva Orleans, ya que te transporta a otra época. Las vistas del atardecer sobre la ciudad son simplemente mágicas. Llega temprano para tomar una bebida y asegurar un buen asiento.
