Intro

Last year my family and I went to San Antonio and Boerne during Thanksgiving for a fun holiday weekend. The cities were beautifully decorated with Christmas trees and lights, creating a magical atmosphere. It was a memorable experience filled with Christmas magic and special family moments. You can really feel the holiday spirit in these beautiful cities.

This 3-day itinerary will show you christmas activities in San Antonio and Boerne. It will also include local restaurants, historic missions and delicious bakeries with delicious pan dulce. I hope this itinerary will help you plan an enchanting holiday adventure with your family. Enjoy!

Where to Stay

For this trip we wanted to stay at a hotel in the San Antonio riverwalk and something that wasn’t too expensive, this is why we stayed at the Riverwalk Plaza Hotel. This hotel was right on the river walk where we were able to walk anywhere in downtown San Antonio. If you have a car you will need to pay for parking at the garage.

Other hotels I have stayed in the past are the Menger Hotel and Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk. The Menger in San Antonio is perfect if you are a history bluff because this hotel is full of history and is one of the oldest in the city. The Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk is right on the San Antonio river walk and the view from this hotel is fantastic. Both hotels are within walking distance to The Alamo, restaurants and shopping areas.

Best Way to Move Around

We drove from Houston which took about 3.5 hours on our car, but if you are visiting San Antonio from another state or country. You can rent a car or use Uber to move around. Parking in downtown San Antonio can be a little complicated, so if you want to visit the missions and Boerne, I recommend you to rent the car just for that day. Boerne, Texas is 35 minutes away from the city of San Antonio.

If you want to rent a car, I recommend you to use Turo. It’s a car sharing company, which is very easy to use. It is also more affordable than renting a car, in my opinion.

Friday

10 a.m. Start your drive from Houston, Texas.

12 p.m. Stop at the Shiner Brewery for delicious BBQ, live music and learn how this famous Texan beer is made. If you are not a fan of beer they also have very good cocktails. Don’t forget to check the merchandise store because they have lots of unique gift ideas.

2 p.m. Drive to San Antonio, Texas.

4 p.m. Arrive to San Antonio and check into your hotel. Relax and get ready for a night of Christmas adventures around San Antonio.

6 p.m. Walk to your spot on the river walk to watch the Ford Holiday River Parade & Lighting Ceremony. This parade only happens once a year and it’s a lot of fun seeing how each float is decorated. Tickets range from $12.50 to $40 and are sold online. Check their website to get all of the information. This is an event you will not want to miss!

8 p.m. On the way to dinner stop at Travis Park to see the christmas lights and tree. You can also see the beautiful Christmas decorations around these historic hotel lobbies, The St. Antony, Menger Hotel and The Gunter Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk. My family and I loved seeing hotel lobbies fully decorated during the holidays because there is just something magical about them. They are also perfect for taking couples or family pictures.

9 p.m. Enjoy dinner at Mi Tierra y Panaderia, this is a very famous Tex-Mex restaurant in San Antonio from the 1940s located in the Historic Market Square. The decor of this place is always very festive. Enjoy live trios which makes you feel like you are somewhere else. Try the quesadillas or the mole enchiladas. Don’t forget to grab some pan dulce for dessert!

11 p.m. Finish your night with a beautiful rooftop view of downtown San Antonio and a refreshing cocktail drink at 1Watson. The view from this rooftop is magnificent and it’s the perfect way to end your night as you take in the city views.

Saturday

7 a.m. Wake up and get ready for a full day of adventures!

8 a.m. Enjoy a very tasty breakfast from Kulture Kafe, a Latina owned food truck with very good food and lattes. Try the molletes, mazapan waffles and Horchata latte, it’s all very good and perfect to fill you up for a full morning of exploring the San Antonio’s Missions.

9 a.m. Arrive to San Jose Mission. It’s better to get there as soon as they open because this place gets packed. This is one of the most famous and bigger missions in San Antonio. The grounds of this mission are spectacular. It’s a testament to the convergence of cultures and the enduring spirit of those who shaped this city’s vibrant history. Entrance is FREE.

11 a.m. Head to Mission Concepción, which is a very picturesque mission full of history, faith and community. This mission is one of the oldest unrestored stone churches in the United States. Inside the church you can admire walls which still have the remnants of their colorful past. Entrance is FREE. On Sunday’s at noon you can enjoy a Marichi Mass. It’s something very unique to see in San Antonio.

12:30 p.m. Head to Boerne, Texas for the start of Holidays in Boerne! Starting the weekend of Thanksgiving there is a holiday weekend celebration until late December. For the Thanksgiving weekend the celebration is called Dicken’s on Main.

1 p.m. Arrive to Boerne just in time for lunch! Head to one of my favorite places in town, Botero Tapas + Wine Bar, which is a Spanish restaurant with delicious tapas. You need to try the Sangria Lavender, it’s very refreshing!

3 to 8 p.m. Walk around Boerne’s main street and see the boutique shops and live carolers. Here are some other activities, which you can enjoy as part of Dicken’s on Main.:

• See Christmas tree lighting and the market full of local vendors at the Main Plaza.
• Ice skating by The Kendall hotel, this is also a hotel where you can stay the night if you don’t want to drive back to San Antonio. Just make sure you reserve in advanced because this place books up fast.
• Visit the petting zoo, which has a variety of animals which you can pet like a llama, kangaroo and porcupine.
• Grab a hot coffee and pastries from the Dienger Trading Co.

8 p.m Head back to the city to stroll along the San Antonio river walk and be mesmerized by the glow of countless twinkling lights.

8:30 p.m. After a day of adventures have a very good dinner right on the river walk at Paesanos Riverwalk. This is a very delicious Italian restaurant with big large portions, perfect for sharing with the family. Try the Pizza Bianca and Penne Poblano Pasta.

10 p.m. As you walk back to your hotel stop by The Alamo and La Villita Historic Village to see it all lit up at night.

Sunday

7 a.m. Wake up and get ready for breakfast.

8 a.m. Enjoy a delicious breakfast at La Panadería Bakery Café. You will want to get there early because there is a line to get in and you can’t make a reservation. Trust me this place gets packed for a good reason, but the wait is worth it! This place will  transport you back to Mexico City circa 1950s with it’s delicious pan dulce and decor. Try El Favorito with chorizo and eggs and also the pan dulce with Mexican Hot Chocolate.

10 a.m. After a tasty breakfast head back to you hotel and check out.

11 a.m. As a last stop in San Antonio visit the Historic Market Square, which is a three-block outdoor plaza and the largest Mexican market in the United States. Enjoy live music at the main plaza and eat fresh fruit cups, elote and aguas frescas at the market. Shop for unique christmas gifts for your friends and family.

1 p.m. Visit the Centro de Artes Gallery to see the exhibitions, which are free for everyone. This is a two-story exhibit space dedicated to telling the story of the Latino experience in the United States. It also showcases Latino artists and Latino-themed artworks.

2 p.m. Head back home after a weekend of Navidad magic in San Antonio and Boerne!

ITINERARIO DE FIN DE SEMANA EN SAN ANTONIO Y BOERNE DURANTE LAS FIESTAS: MISIONES, PASEO DEL RÍO Y FESTIVIDADES LOCALES

Introducción

El año pasado, mi familia y yo fuimos a San Antonio y Boerne durante el Día de Acción de Gracias para pasar un divertido fin de semana festivo. Las ciudades estaban bellamente decoradas con árboles de Navidad y luces, creando una atmósfera mágica. Fue una experiencia inolvidable, llena de la magia navideña y momentos especiales en familia. Realmente se puede sentir el espíritu navideño en estas hermosas ciudades.

Este itinerario de 3 días te mostrará actividades navideñas en San Antonio y Boerne. También incluirá restaurantes locales, misiones históricas y deliciosas panaderías con pan dulce. Espero que este itinerario te ayude a planificar una encantadora aventura navideña con tu familia. ¡Disfruta!

Dónde Hospedarse

Para este viaje, queríamos hospedarnos en un hotel en el Paseo del Río de San Antonio que no fuera demasiado caro, por eso nos quedamos en el Riverwalk Plaza Hotel. Este hotel estaba justo en el Paseo del Río, lo que nos permitió caminar a cualquier lugar en el centro de San Antonio. Si tienes coche, necesitarás pagar por el estacionamiento en el garaje.

Otros hoteles en los que me he alojado en el pasado son el Menger Hotel y el Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk. El Menger en San Antonio es perfecto si eres un apasionado de la historia, ya que este hotel está lleno de historia y es uno de los más antiguos de la ciudad. El Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk está justo en el paseo del río San Antonio, y la vista desde este hotel es fantástica. Ambos hoteles están a poca distancia a pie de El Álamo, restaurantes y zonas de compras.

La mejor manera de moverse en la cuidad

Nosotros manejamos desde Houston, lo que nos tomó alrededor de 3.5 horas en coche, pero si estás visitando San Antonio desde otro estado o país, puedes rentar un coche o usar Uber para moverte. Estacionarse en el centro de San Antonio puede ser un poco complicado, por lo que si quieres visitar las misiones y Boerne, te recomiendo rentar el coche solo para ese día. Boerne, Texas, está a 35 minutos de la ciudad de San Antonio.

Si deseas rentar un coche, te recomiendo usar Turo. Es una empresa de carsharing que es muy fácil de usar. Además, en mi opinión, es más económico que alquilar un coche.

Viernes

10 a.m. Comienza tu viaje desde Houston, Texas.

12 p.m. Haz una parada en la Shiner Brewery  para disfrutar de un delicioso BBQ, música en vivo y aprender cómo se elabora esta famosa cerveza texana. Si no eres fanático de la cerveza, también tienen muy buenos cócteles. No olvides visitar la tienda de mercancía, ya que tienen muchas ideas de regalos únicos.

2 p.m. Conduce hacia San Antonio, Texas.

4 p.m. Llega a San Antonio y regístrate en tu hotel. Relájate y prepárate para una noche de aventuras navideñas por San Antonio.

6 p.m. Camina hasta tu lugar en el Paseo del Río para ver el Ford Holiday River Parade & Lighting Ceremony. Este desfile solo ocurre una vez al año y es muy divertido ver cómo cada carroza está decorada. Los boletos varían entre $12.50 y $40 y se venden en línea. Consulta su sitio web para obtener toda la información. ¡Este es un evento que no querrás perderte!

8 p.m. De camino a la cena, haz una parada en Travis Park para ver las luces y el árbol de Navidad. También puedes ver las hermosas decoraciones navideñas en los vestíbulos de estos hoteles históricos: The St. Antony, Menger Hotel y The Gunter Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk. A mi familia y a mí nos encantó ver los vestíbulos de los hoteles totalmente decorados durante las fiestas porque tienen algo mágico. También son perfectos para tomar fotos en pareja o en familia.

9 p.m. Disfruta de la cena en Mi Tierra y Panaderia, un restaurante Tex-Mex muy famoso en San Antonio desde la década de 1940, ubicado en el Historic Market Square. La decoración de este lugar siempre es muy festiva. Disfruta de tríos en vivo que te hacen sentir como si estuvieras en otro lugar. Prueba las quesadillas o las enchiladas de mole. ¡No olvides llevarte un pan dulce para el postre!

11 p.m. Termina tu noche con una hermosa vista panorámica del centro de San Antonio y un refrescante cóctel en 1Watson. La vista desde esta azotea es magnífica y es la manera perfecta de terminar tu noche mientras disfrutas de las vistas de la ciudad.

Sábado

7 a.m. ¡Despiértate y prepárate para un día lleno de aventuras!

8 a.m. Disfruta de un delicioso desayuno en Kulture Kafe, un food truck de una latina con comida muy buena y lattes. Prueba los molletes, los waffles de mazapán y el Horchata latte, todo es muy delicioso y perfecto para llenarte antes de una mañana completa explorando las misiones de San Antonio.

9 a.m. Llega a la Misión San José. Es mejor llegar tan pronto como abran, porque este lugar se llena de gente. Esta es una de las misiones más famosas y grandes de San Antonio. Los terrenos de esta misión son espectaculares. Es un testimonio de la convergencia de culturas y el espíritu perdurable de quienes dieron forma a la vibrante historia de esta ciudad. La entrada es GRATUITA.

11 a.m. Dirígete a la Misión Concepción, que es una misión muy pintoresca, llena de historia, fe y comunidad. Esta misión es una de las iglesias de piedra más antiguas y no restauradas en los Estados Unidos. Dentro de la iglesia, puedes admirar las paredes que aún conservan los restos de su colorido pasado. La entrada es GRATUITA. Los domingos al mediodía, puedes disfrutar de una Misa Mariachi. Es algo muy único de ver en San Antonio.

12:30 p.m. Dirígete a Boerne, Texas, para el inicio de las festividades navideñas en Boerne. A partir del fin de semana de Acción de Gracias, hay una celebración navideña hasta finales de diciembre. Para el fin de semana de Acción de Gracias, la celebración se llama Dicken’s on Main.

1 p.m. Llega a Boerne justo a tiempo para el almuerzo. Dirígete a uno de mis lugares favoritos en la ciudad, Botero Tapas + Wine Bar, que es un restaurante español con tapas deliciosas. Tienes que probar la Sangría Lavender, ¡es muy refrescante!

3 p.m. a 8 p.m. Pasea por la calle principal de Boerne y visita las tiendas boutique y escucha a los villancicos en vivo. Aquí hay algunas otras actividades que puedes disfrutar como parte de Dicken’s on Main:

• Ve el encendido del árbol de Navidad y el mercado lleno de vendedores locales en la Main Plaza.
• Patina sobre hielo junto al hotel The Kendall  que también es un hotel donde puedes pasar la noche si no quieres regresar a San Antonio. Solo asegúrate de reservar con anticipación porque este lugar se llena rápidamente.
• Visita el zoológico de contacto, que tiene una variedad de animales que puedes acariciar, como una llama, un canguro y un puercoespín.
• Toma un café caliente y pasteles en Dienger Trading Co.

8 p.m. Regresa a la ciudad para pasear por el Paseo del Río de San Antonio y déjate maravillar por el resplandor de las innumerables luces titilantes.

8:30 p.m. Después de un día de aventuras, disfruta de una muy buena cena justo en el Paseo del Río en Paesanos Riverwalk. Este es un delicioso restaurante italiano con porciones grandes, perfectas para compartir con la familia. Prueba la Pizza Bianca y la Pasta Penne Poblano.

10 p.m. Mientras caminas de regreso a tu hotel, pasa por El Álamo y La Villita Historic Village para verlos iluminados por la noche.

Domingo

7 a.m. Despiértate y prepárate para el desayuno.

8 a.m. Disfruta de un delicioso desayuno en La Panadería Bakery Café. Querrás llegar temprano porque siempre hay una fila para entrar y no puedes hacer reservaciones. Créeme, este lugar se llena por una buena razón, ¡pero la espera vale la pena! Este lugar te transportará a la Ciudad de México de la década de 1950 con su delicioso pan dulce y decoración. Prueba El Favorito con chorizo y huevos, y también el pan dulce con chocolate caliente mexicano.

10 a.m. Después de un delicioso desayuno, regresa a tu hotel y haz el check-out.

11 a.m. Como última parada en San Antonio, visita el Historic Market Square, que es una plaza al aire libre de tres cuadras y el mercado mexicano más grande de Estados Unidos. Disfruta de música en vivo en la plaza principal y come frescos vasos de frutas, elote y aguas frescas en el mercado. Compra regalos navideños únicos para tus amigos y familiares.

1 p.m. Visita la Galería Centro de Artes para ver las exposiciones, que son gratuitas para todos. Este es un espacio de exhibición de dos pisos dedicado a contar la historia de la experiencia latina en Estados Unidos. También muestra artistas latinos y obras de arte con temas latinos.

2 p.m. Regresa a casa después de un fin de semana lleno de magia navideña en San Antonio y Boerne.
